We Have Come This Far By Faith

June 1996

After the Elder D. G. Taylor, Sr.) moved in the faith of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by the direction of the Holy Ghost to be called out of a ministry that he had known most of his life to establishing The Temple of Refuge Church of the Lord Jesus of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. Elder Taylor gave all to provide for the House of God and the people of God.

Elder Taylor walked out on faith with the support of Co-founder/First Lady V. W. Taylor, his natural children, and 14 church families stepped out on faith.  This newly formed Body of Christ found “Refuge” in a storefront building located on West Gordon.  Much work was done within one week to ensure that the saints would have a place to worship on Sunday morning.  The men of God labored together and built the pulpit, made repairs and structural changes while First Lady Taylor and the women cleaned, hung window coverings, and beautified the house of God.  Sunday morning the saints came in expecting a mighty move of God and to their dismay, some had changed their minds and turned back. Knowing that God was going to do a mighty and quick work, Elder Taylor spoke prophetically that within one year God would provide a permanent home and their own land would be purchased.

June 1997

God did it!!  No more renting.  Elder Taylor moved by faith, God opened doors for the purchase of the edifice and property at 2711 Phillips Drive. The Lord instructed the Man of God, Elder D. G. Taylor, Sr. to go on two significant fasts as pertaining to the “Body of Christ.” First, a fourteen-day fast where the Lord dealt with him concerning the Tabernacle, the Revelation of Moses, the burning bush, and the call that was upon his life.  It was out of this fast that God spoke to the man of God and revealed the called to be an Apostle and Prophet to the nations.  Like Jacob, the wrestling began.  He wrestled with the angel until he heard the voice call unto him to consecrate himself to more fasting and prayer.  This call brought him to forty days and nights of fasting and prayer.

His flesh being weakened and torn around the twentieth day of the fast, Elder Taylor heard from the Lord as Moses did, “See that you build all things according to the pattern.”  A pivotal move began. From his loins came forth a birth-the church, The Temple of Refuge Church of the Lord Jesus of the Apostolic Faith, Inc.  The promise of a people was given, and a seed was counted as a generation.  There were many dreams concerning the nations of the universe and things that would come upon the face of the earth. During the days of the early prophecy, there was much scoffing and criticism, but he maintained his faith, and not one word fell to the ground.  Within the forty days of consecration, he also saw the pattern coming out of God which gave an understanding of the Apostolic Doctrine that he had embraced as a child.  He journeyed into the mind of God and the Lord spoke to him giving this promise, “For the years, that you’ve sought after my heart, I reveal unto you the hidden treasures and secrets of my mind.”  That book was promised, and God declared that Elder Taylor would eat the book.  The Angel of the Lord spoke to him saying, “Not many days now and ye shall eat the book that ye hold in your right hand.”  In this, Revelation of Holy Divine Order was given, and Elder Taylor was commanded to teach the people of God from Moses into Apostolic Faith, through the promise and the revelation of Kingdom Living. At this point, the Full Body Ministry was revealed as the Ministry of Jesus Christ.

At the end of the fast, the Lord showed him terrible days, days of great trouble, calamities, and days that were never known unto men.  God revealed to him in a vision; men running to Refuge for safety.  They would run until they made it to the door of the church where he was the keeper of the door (Psalm 84:10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of the wickedness.). When the
Man of God saw himself opening the door, they would run in and would find rest.  As Revelation 3:7 declares – And the angel of the church in Philadelphia write These things saith he that is holy; “he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth and no man openeth.  In that, the name of the church came forth “The Temple of Refuge Church of the Lord Jesus of the Apostolic Faith, Inc.”

December 1997

Apostle Taylor went in search of his spiritual father, whom he met at the age of 10 with Mother Emma Carroll, who at that time was the Church Mother, Prophet S. D. James.  She took the man of God Alabama to meet him at an International Winter Campmeeting.  It was then and there that his eyes beheld; after 22 years, his childhood Prophet, the man of God that had spoken into his heart and life all the things concerning himself. Upon entering into the Prophet’s Chambers of Chief Apostle S. D. James, he knew who the man of God was and again he spoke into his life the deep sentiments of his heart.  The journey began as the Lord had promised him that he would eat the book.  The Prophet spoke with a loud voice sounding like a trumpet saying, “Glory to God” and called for his staff members and asked them, “What do you see?”  He then said, “Not long now son, not long now.  Ye shall eat the book.”  Tears rolled from his eyes.  Elder Taylor knew that his search was over, he was home.
